SCL Student Named National Merit Finalist
West St. Paul, MN

St. Croix Lutheran Academy, West St. Paul, senior Stephen Kletscher, son of Bradley and Joanne Kletscher, Woodbury, MN, has been named a National Merit Scholarship Program Finalist.
After being named one of 16,000 semifinalists, Stephen submitted a detailed scholarship application, including essays and information about his extracurricular achievements, awards, and leadership positions. As a semifinalist, Stephen has demonstrated an outstanding academic record.
Stephen has been endorsed by and recommended by St. Croix Lutheran Academy, West St. Paul, and earned SAT scores that confirm his qualifying test performance. From the finalist candidates, winners will be selected who have the strongest combination of academic skills and achievements, extracurricular accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous university studies. Scholarship winners represent less than one percent of the initial pool of student entrants.
In addition to his academic accomplishments, Stephen is the student body president, an executive homeroom leader, an international mentor, a Youth in Government Delegation leader, and an active volunteer for several SCL programs. In addition, Stephen is a three-season athlete who played on the varsity football (captain), basketball (captain), and track teams for the Crusaders.
Some 7,500 National Merit Scholarship winners from the group of more than 15,000 finalists of 2018 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July. These scholarship recipients will join more than 315,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the Merit Scholar title.
